McCoy Russell attorney, Xiaohong Ding, has just arrived in Beijing for her AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association) delegation trip. This is the third year in a row Xiaohong has had the honor of delegate on behalf of the IP Practice in China Committee of the AIPLA.

The Committee works to establish and maintain relations with professional societies in China whose members are interested in intellectual property law.  The Committee’s members study Chinese law and practice and report on issues of interest to the AIPLA Board of Directors and membership.  The Committee also provides information on US intellectual property law to any interested party in China, if called upon to do so. In addition, the Committee organizes these regular trips to China.

This trip begins in Beijing and then its on to Shenzhen where the delegates have an opportunity to learn of updates and changes in Chinese IP law from the CNIPA. Additionally, to visit and communicate with many of the companies in China about intellectual property.

Senior Counsel, Janina Malone, was selected for a Lawyer Monthly Women in Law 2019 Award in recognition of her outstanding legal expertise and contribution.

Janina was chosen based on some of her highlighted achievements over the last 18 months. This individual accolade was based awarded based on an evaluation of votes received from Lawyer Monthly readers, raising awareness in relation to equality and gender issues faced by women in the legal sector, amount of documented activity in 2018/2019 compared to peers, size of involvement within transactions, peer recognition, client care, and innovation.

McCoy Russell has won an important reversal before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) in Technology Center 3700. Our team, led by John Russell, battled improper rejections under Section 112 claiming the inventors lacked possession of the invention by the United States Patent Office and successfully convinced the PTAB to reverse the rejections on Appeal 2017-008486.

McCoy Russell is pleased to announce that John Dawson has joined the firm as a Patent Attorney effective June 3, 2019.

Mr. Dawson is a leading Patent Attorney with more than 20 years of experience practicing in Oregon.  Mr. Dawson has represented numerous prominent clients in protecting their intellectual property through both utility and design patents.  His practice also includes counseling clients in developing a patent portfolio strategy and navigating the IP landscape.  Mr. Dawson has extensive experience in the mechanical and electro-mechanical arts. Mr. Dawson also has extensive experience managing patent portfolios having been a former managing partner at the Portland Office of Harness Dickey and Pierce as well as a senior associate at Banner & Witcoff. He additionally worked as a senior propulsion engineer at Boeing for 6 years.
